Grants offered by water board

October 24, 2007

Applications for the 2008 Okanagan Basin Water Board grant program will be available in mid-November this year in order for projects to get underway earlier in the coming year.

The projects must be ones that will either conserve water or improve water quality, and they must be submitted or endorsed by local government.

Water stewardship coordinator Genevieve Dunbar said the grants are intended to support innovative solutions with on-the-ground projects that demonstrate collaborative effort and have basin-wide significance.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2008 for awarding in March and April, but because non-profit, non-government groups must have them endorsed by municipalities or regional districts, Dunbar said she is trying to get the invitation out early this year.
