Irrigation Scheduling for Naramata Water System

Project Year:

2008

Project Budget:

$40,000

WCQI Grant:

$25,000

Organization:
Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen

Project Description:

This pilot project supplied equipment and scheduling information to a group of irrigators, and compared water consumption against a control group without the equipment. The information gained through the comparison helped to inform the development of the Naramata Water Conservation Plan. The project engaged with farmers who were new to irrigation scheduling, and those who already followed best practices. Barriers to various irrigation methods were identified and potential solutions were developed. The development of the Water Conservation Plan through this project also made Naramata eligible for provincial drinking water and wastewater infrastructure grant funding.
