Irrigation Connection Point Retro-fit Project

Project Year:

2017

Project Budget:

$1,500,000

WCQI Grant:

$30,000

Organization:
City of Kelowna, Parks Services

Project Description:

The City of Kelowna has approximately 350 irrigation points of connection. Less than a third of these POCs (Point of Connections) had functioning flow monitoring capabilities. As part of the City of Kelowna's Irrigation Renewal Capital Program, the aim of this pilot project was to increase the number of POC upgrades 2017 with current technology to include flow monitoring. Flow monitoring increases water conservation levels and reduces property damage liability through the detection and elimination of excess or unexpected flow caused by line breaks, valve failures and sprinkler vandalism. Historical use reports have been generated and a heightened awareness of water consumption through live usage data has been realized. This project led to the immediate isolation of issues impacting 13 sites which were quickly repaired.
