Irrigation Systems Assessment and Strategy for Parks
Project Year:
2010
Project Budget:$150
WCQI Grant:$17
Organization:City of Kelowna
Project Description:
Water used to irrigate public parks accounts for about 6% of the City of Kelowna Water Utility’s total annual water production. Because this usage occurs only during the irrigation season (May – September), Parks irrigation is a major contributor to peak demand.
This project inventoried existing irrigation systems and determined that there were several areas for improvement in water efficiency. The recommendations for improvement were the basis for ongoing efforts to develop the City of Kelowna Irrigation Efficiency Program, as part of the City of Kelowna Conservation Manual for Municipal Parks and Green Spaces.
