Source Water Protection Planning

Project Year:

2008

Project Budget:

$25,000

WCQI Grant:

$20,000

Organization:
Lakeview Irrigation District

Project Description:

The intent of this project was to gain a greater understanding of the risk factors to the Lambly Creek Watershed and Rose Valley Reservoir water sources that may exist as a result of the variety of land uses in the watershed, such as increased recreational activity, with consideration of the potential risks associated with the effects of the Mountain Pine Beetle. The final plan is also intended to address the Interior Health Authority (IHA) condition on the LID Operating Permit that requires a Source Protection Plan for its source area. LID was able to incorporate information collected from previous watershed assessments to produce maps with accurate locations of important features and inventory contaminant sources. Potential effects from industrial, recreational and agricultural activities were reviewed, and risks to drinking water quality and quantity were reviewed and characterized. Based on the results, recommendations were formed as part of the final report to provide direction or corrective actions required to reduce risks to drinking water where applicable.
